The year is 606, and in your home— the country of Corcaea— the souls of mankind belong to demons.

A phenomenon known as the "Catalyst" is what's to blame for turning men into monsters. This diabolical phenomenon can turn any human into a demon if they fall prey to one, all-consuming element. It can be anything. Fear. Grief. Generosity. Even love.

In a land where Gods are real and an all-powerful theocracy is the last hope for mankind, you follow in the footsteps of Brother Richard Anscham: a troubled young priest, the former leader of the Church of Mercy, and the foremost researcher of the Catalyst.

In a successful quest to obtain a holy Relic, Brother Anscham rescued a tremendous number of lost souls from deeply below the ruins that cover the earth. However, the curative properties of this Relic could not truly mend his wounds. To make matters worse, the help that he sought from the Church of Flesh did nothing to soothe his shattered mental and physical condition.

Richard may have lost his title and lands, but the four months of his self-imposed isolation has come to an end, and his resolve has never been stronger. There is a civil war raging in the capital city, instigated by none other than the men and women that Brother Anscham saved. King Magnus the Merciful will not stand for watching Calunoth burn, and has called on his renegade priest to put a stop to the carnage by any means necessary.

See through the eyes of a bent but not broken anti-hero, in this dark fantasy tale of healing, adventure, growth, and found family. Search for the cure. Conquer your personal demons.

Welcome to Catalyst: Calunoth! As this is an archive of Catalyst Quest (an interactive, collaborative story), the prompts that were included with the original run of the story have been stripped, and the story is presented like a traditional novel for your reading convenience. If you would like to read Catalyst in its original format, you can find it here on Sufficient Velocity. Please note that this is my oldest writing (this was some of the first fiction I ever wrote, and is over three years old)! You can look forward to a steady increase in quality as the story progresses, particularly in later books. Though this is the third installment in the Catalyst series, it is not necessary to read any prior books to follow Calunoth. That said, the prior books can be found below:

Book 1: Catalyst: The Ruins Book 2: Catalyst: Avowed

This book is complete! If you're looking for the next installment in Catalyst, Catalyst: The Red Lion is scheduled to launch by May 2023!
