This is a grimdark fantasy story. Expect a character-focused plot with lots of deadly fights/struggles, lots of monsters and a high attrition rate for gear and people.

I can't see shit, there are monsters in every shadow and for some reason, this toad in my mouth is filled with an unexpected amount of blasphemy for its size.

This is the rough first impression of Rye, who wakes up in a sarcophagus and only very slowly realizes that A: she has died, B: she is still alive C: the world has gone so crazy she is either in an oddly inventive nightmare or in literal hell.

Nothing she knows, or can even remember, fits with what she little she can see and experience and so she stumbles forward into the dark, to explore this hostile world without light around her, to find who she is, was and wants to be and maybe happen upon a quiet place where she can finally have a bit of not-concussion-induced sleep.

But if the world conspires to kill her, will she kill back? Or will keep to her morals and let it try, finding perhaps another less violent way? And to that end, what price is she willing to pay?

Heyo, YJarex here, the Y is silent. This is my first story so please be kind, but don't hesitate to point out flaws or ask questions if things are unclear. The story will have a slow progression and I fully intend to continue writing this until it is done some time in the far future. I'll be updating like mad during the Writathon, but considering other obligations, I'll probably settle in on a two chapter per week update schedule afterwards.

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
