<p> The life and times of Mittens, a village cat in the revolutionary fantasy VR MMORPG "Shattered Realms." With the advent of rudimentary AI, VR games enjoy tremendous popularity, but computing power isn't cheap enough for true intelligence on a large scale. The CEO and lead developer of Nyaosoft, creator of Shattered Realms, is a cat fanatic and, after a tremendously succesful release, devoted himself to building the most robust cat AI possible. After all, cats are level zero non-combat critters. What could possibly go wrong? </p> <p> Inspired by an EvP fiction on RoyalRoad, this is my first attempt at writing. Mittens is inspired by my cats, and a (housecat) character I once played in a Pathfinder campaign. Actually, every cat that is a character will be based on a cat that I've lived with (cat fostering for the win). And as you will hopefully be able to tell, every one of those cats was a big ol' dork. There will be no min-maxing here. There's no serious RPGing about (from the cats. The PCs and admins are very serious). There will be what I imagine my cats are thinking, doing cat things, with cat style. There will be no AI self-awareness cataclysm. Spoilers: If I get to a second volume of the story, it'll be named "What's With Those Cats?" </p> <p> I'm going for biweekly updates, and staying at least two weeks (four chapters) ahead. Working sixty hours a week for the lose. </p>
