<p>It's quite common for a young lad or lady to be transported, be they willing or not, to another world.</p> <p>Be they hero or villain, savior or scum, their lives tend to be extraordinary.</p> <p>One may ask the pertinent question: Why is it always the young that are chosen?</p> <p>An excellent question!</p> <p>To which I regrettably lack the answer.</p> <p>Yet sometimes anomalies occur, sometimes it is a vehicle, sometimes an animal, sometimes a vending machine, sometimes a murderous cutting edge AI and sometimes it is a mere old man.</p> <p>This particular old man had already lived a full and happy life and was looking forward to being reunited with a certain special someone at the pearly gates.</p> <p>At least he hoped that he was worthy, and that they actually happened to exist.</p> <p>However, fate had other ideas.</p> <p>Now this pitiful old man has been torn from his beautiful and mundane earth to a world of Systems and Specializations, of Classes and Spellcraft, of Hero and Villain...</p> <p>The world of Almaer!</p> <p>Wait, that sounds familiar...</p> <p>Wasn't Almaer that game that the old man's precious granddaughter used to play?</p> <p>That self same game that included human sacrifice and soul-eating demons?</p> <p>No, surely that can't be right, all the people are much too nice!</p> <p>In any case, would you care to join an old man for his second life in a fantasy world?</p> <p>[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]</p> <p>Hello there, this is just a random old man who decided to write a random story so that it may hopefully entertain or evoke emotions, hopefully positive ones, in at least somebody.</p> <p>English is not my first language and I am, at best, a novice when it comes to writing.</p> <p>Because of that I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions that would aid in my improvement as a writer.</p> <p>My personal goal for this challenge is to meet 55.000 words, and to perhaps exceed it, with the goal being at least a chapter a day of at least 2.000 words.</p> <p>Otherwise I hope you have an excellent day, and thank you for your time and attention!</p> <p>Credit for the beautiful picture goes to Alphonse Legros, specifically this is Old man, Old Tree (Vieil homme, vieil arbre) which currently rests in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C</p>
