Donavan has made his living by wading through hundreds of amateur fantasy stories in search of the quality few him and his firm believe to be worth publishing. Now, Erwin Greymire- grandson to the late famous author Robert L. Greymire, wishes to continue his family's legacy by publishing his very own epic fantasy series.

Too bad he can't write worth crap.

But Erwin has something no other author does. A typewriter that actually brings whatever he writes with it to life inside a strange alternate world. But if he wants to improve his story, he'll need someone on the inside, someone who actually knows what they're doing, or at least someone with a slightly better idea than him. That's where Donavan comes in, willingly or not.

There the jaded publishing agent will encounter a world filled with tropes such as over-powered chosen ones, adventurer guilds, horribly impractical bikini armors, and yes, even a harem or two. And if he wants to return to his own life, he'll have to navigate those tropes, twist events, work both with and against the main characters all in the pursuit of a glorious climax of hero vs. villain (Donavan of course playing the role of villain) where once he is struck down, he will be released from the fantasy world and return to his own life by means of death by protagonist.

Authors Note: Death By Protagonist is meant to be simultaneously a satire of, and love letter to the isekai/portal fantasy genre. It both makes fun of and embraces many tropes of the genre such as harems, OP protagonists, and other things many people might think of as "trashy". If that doesn't sound like your thing, you've been warned, but I hope you'll give it a shot anyway.

Update Schedule: Plan is to add new chapter weekly, every monday.
