Marlathon, a prosperous kingdom, becomes embroiled in an old conflict. Their people are called to arms as peace keepers in the realm of Ardenia, retaining the the Filus hordes. The Filians, a group of fiery zealots, continue to press the borders. Their religious fervor cannot be quelled as they sacrifice their captors in search of an unwitting martyr. Ardenia teeters on the precipice of war.

Far away from the conflict, a young Marlathon man named Abel starts to crave escape from the doldrums of his father's studies. He dreads the fate of a scholar, to be lost in a dusty tome, or relegated to the pages of mediocrity. As the conflict to the South heightens, he feels the tug of destiny wrapping its tendrils around him. As Abel's path unfolds, he discovers the power of his mind with the help from his companions, as well as a few unexpected acquaintances. The tempest continues to brew as the keen young man tries to find his footing on the steps of fate.
