Stonecasting is a gambler's magic. A good throw can summon forth powerful creatures to your aid. A bad throw can doom you. This isn't the type of magic that heroes usually rely on, but, after the gods departed the world, it's the only magic they have left.

Bastian Burke wants to go to a stonecasting academy so that he can pay off his parents' debt and reunite his family. Having lived on the streets since his parents were sent to debtors' prison, the odds were not looking to be in his favor. That changes when, as a reward for an act of kindness, Bastian is given the ability to spirit summon. He'll still need the help of some friends and more than a few lucky throws, but with this rare ability, he might just be able to make his dreams come true.

He'll need to master stonecasting quick though because the gods may have left, but the devils remain.
