Ned Cartwright, family man and schoolteacher, is about to die a hero when he's whisked away to another world run by alien intelligences looking for people just like him. Now, alone and confused, his family lost, the last thing he feels like doing is to keep going.

Hughie is Ned's guide in this new world. Right away he knows that Ned is different from the other people brought there, but he just can't seem to get Ned out into it.

Together, the two friends face the prospect of a world its Developers created to resemble a game where the monsters are real, the nobility is ruthless, and life is brutal. Oh, and this game? It's in early access.

NOTE: I'm now posting chapters for the third and final novel in the series. ALSO NOTE: I've rewritten and edited most of the early chapters in the first book, hopefully mitigating a bit of that 'slow start' business. I hope.
