In 2257 AD, Luke Benton died at age twelve while Playing EternalRealms, a fully immersive "deep dive" virtual reality game. Five years later, his family has pretty much come to terms with that. And so has he. Because, although he died, he never actually logged out.

As the first ever digital 'ghost,' Luke has spent the last five years doing what he loves. Playing EternalRealms. His existence is not a secret, although his identity is. He is well documented and studied, and generally pretty well adjusted, all things considered. But then things begin to change, as EternalRealms parent company develops a device which will allow him to interact with the physical world for the first time in years. And, more importantly to him, his little sister decides that she wants to start playing the game that her big brother loves so much.

But things become difficult for the young digital ghost as the wrong people become interested in his existence, and the capabilities of the 'Hard-Light Holograms' which allow him to use his in-game abilities in the real world.
