Most people spend a lifetime avoiding the Other Side. Some spend a lifetime searching for it. Some rare few, least often and most unfortunate of all, stumble upon it. Unwitting and unwilling, forced to face realities that they'd have rather left unknown.

Jules was of the last type. A cold September night, 1862, in the Colorado Territory. An unseasonable blizzard and dark rumors. He followed the Sheriff into the twisting woods outside his home town, eager to prove his worth. What he'd seen there, what he'd done there, couldn't be forgotten.

Time would tell if they could be forgiven. Forced into a world he wasn't prepared for, Jules is honor-bound to help a fledgling witch find the safety he unknowingly stole from her. To do so he'll have to cross a nation at war, escorting the strangest woman he'd ever seen, who really didn't seem keen to have him along.

Dark things crawl out of the woodwork when a witch passes them by. Things forgotten by the growing world of steam and powder, yet just as dangerous as they've always been.

Quite frankly, Jules didn't think he stood a chance.
