Brooke believed she'd understood the tug-of-war between entities seeking to end or save humanity. She believed in the Vanguard, heroes granted immense power via contracts with the eldritch. She believed she would have no part in any of it. Above all, she believed in a path where she could return to a semblance of normality.
She was wrong.
