Calian Raeval was a child of the sea.

Born to inherit the title of trade Baron from his father, he learned the life of a sailor at a young age. To give his thanks to the gods, especially to his House's patron god Lady Ha'Kor, for calm waters and clear skies during his voyages. To share his stories with those who would listen to them, and to in turn listen to the stories of others. And, most importantly, to live a life of honorable intention.

But when his ship is attacked for reasons unknown to him, by forces that are as mystical as they are dangerous, his life begins to unravel at the seams as he learns that his destiny is far greater than that of a trade Baron's heir. For he has been chosen as a Herald, an instrument of war in a battlefield seen only by those entrenched in the realm of Ascendancy.
