Adam is a poor, down-on-his luck college student who just lost a big art contest that could have turned his fortunes around. Things go from bad to worse when he examines what should have been an ordinary painting, only for him to immediately be transported into an alternate fantasy world. He quickly finds that his blood has turned to ink, and that he's gained the ability to steal people's skills - and souls - by painting their portrait in his tablet.

It's the only defense he has against the ravenous monsters and suspicious locals he soon encounters. Unfortunately, rather than a reprieve from the melancholy of his life on Earth, this new world is just as disappointing. Corruption runs rampant, and the common people suffer.

Adam judges his surroundings, and finds them...inadequate.

Someone else may have thrown in the towel. Instead, Adam watches. He plans. And it doesn't take him long to start making moves that will shake society to its core.

The denizens of the Painted World have no idea what's in store for them.
