Jon, a retired knight in his fifties, lives a happy life, running a bar in a peaceful village with his wife, until one day the village is slaughtered by the Dark Lord. He escapes, losing his wife and leg and promising revenge. Fangs, the half-wolf mage helping him escape, tells him of a prophecy, a man destined to save the world from the Dark Lord, and that he, Jon, was chosen to mentor the chosen one.

They are attacked by a group of goblin bandits in the woods, and Fangs turns into a giant bear and kills them. Markus, the prince of Nexonin, meets with his father, King Harry, to convince him to wage war against the Dark Lord. The king brushes him off. Jon and Fangs try to enter the gates of Nexonia City but are stopped by the guards. After a fight, Emit, a high ranking general who knows Jon, lets them in, and accompanies them through the city. They witness a young foreign woman, Rose, being terrorized by Tiab, a high ranking knight. It is implied that he violates her against her will. They arrive at the castle and inform Markus that he is the chosen one. Jon, Fangs, and Emit each give the prince a distinctive training pattern. Jon sets the city folk to attack him for a reward. A mysterious time traveller appears and defeats Markus but refuses the reward. Fangs conjures an army of summons for Markus to fight. The time traveller appears to Fangs, foreshadowing demise for the prince. Jon is approached by Rose one day, who tells him of the acts that Tiab has commited upon her, and begs for a place to stay. She joins him on a training session for the prince. They are called for a meeting with the king. Rose is traumatized to see Tiab there, but is forced to stay and serve drinks. Rose attempts to kill Tiab in the meeting, Tiab accuses her of being a paid assassin to kill the king. Jon defends her and lashes out, leaving with Emit and Fangs. Jon recieves a letter that Tiab has been jailed. Jon and Rose make love. Thornridge, Alijone is attacked by the Dark Lord, and completely slaughtered, including Prince Tyler Hawk, a fire mage and knight. Jon tells Rose that their relationship is not right and he thinks she is unsafe. New meeting, Emit is offered the position of Tiab, but is made to argue the case that he is no longer an avid drinker. They plan for Markus and Fangs to be teleported to reclaim Thornridge. They are caught trying to sneak into the watchtower to alarm the Alijonian army and are forced to fight the Dark Army. The army arrives, led by Tyler, Michael's brother. An immortal dragon appears. They knock the watchtower and bury the dragon underneath it. Jon tells Rose that they can not continue their relationship because mentors are destined to die after their prophecies.

Markus meets with his lover, Meridith, and bids her farewell. The king orders the army to prepare. A portion of the Nexonish army stood at a village is slaughtered with poison by a group of cloaked dark elves. The prince and mentors are stood at the Nexonish walls. Jon passes his sword down to Markus. The Dark Army arrives, they send an army of chickens to litter the field with seeds. Hod, a large fire-breathing demon, sets fire to the seeds and excites a trail of explosions, killing most of the Nexonish army. Markus ventures to find the Dark Lord. They fight. After near-defeat, Emit teleports Markus to safety. Markus arrives at the castle and is met by the others and the Dark Lord for a final battle where Markus unleashes his full power and knocks him to the ground. Before he could kill him, he is struck by misfortune and is knocked to the ground, falling and snapping his neck, dying. Jon retakes his sword from Markus's corpse, staring at his own reflection smeered in blood on it, promising revenge.
